Hi

You should be able to find the word 'earnest' in any dictionary.

Hi Torsten
In my opinion, this sentence could use a bit of editing:
- The standard spelling of Internet is still with a capital I.
- There should be a comma after the word 'father' (to separate the non-defining clause).

It was possible to look up the topic on the Internet but she decided instead to ask her erudite father, who knew the answer to most things.

Is this going to be another let's-just-stick-our-heads-in-the-sand situation?

Suggested correction:
It was possible to look up the topic on the Internet, but she decided instead to ask her ......... father, who knew the answer to most things.
