Optional test questions (Can you see anybody in that classroom?) #1 (permalink) Mon Mar 31, 2008 16:54 pm   Optional test questions (Can you see anybody in that classroom?)

1/ Can you see anybody in that classroom?
- Yes. There _______ a teacher and fifty students there.

A. is

B. are

C. has been

D. have been
=> which is right and why?
2/ teacher's hair / fall / forehead / it / almost hide / blue eyes //

A. The teacher's hair falling over her forehead, it almost hides her blue eyes.

B. The teacher's hair falls over her forehead, it almost hides her blue eyes.

C. The teacher's hair falls over her forehead that it almost hides her blue
eyes.

D. The teacher's hair is fallen over her forehead, and it almost hides her blue
eyes.
=> the answer for this is D but I personally think that all is wrong here. What do you think?

Many thanks
Nessie

Hi Amy, thanks a lot for your help.
First, as for the second question, I'm glad you have the same idea as me :)
I think it can be changed into:
The teacher's hair falls over her forehead, and it almost hides her blue
eyes.
However, I think this is a more suitable change:
The teacher's hair fell over her forehead, and it almost hid her blue
eyes.

because anyway, this is a descriptive sentence and so I think it should be in past tense

Next, as for the second question, could you please click on this link to see the discussion between Torsten and me over that matter:

Thanks
Nessie :)
