Usage of 'heard'

Can some one please tell me if the following sentences are OK?

1. It's been quite long since I heard his music.

2. It's been quite long since I heard him. ( Can I just say 'him' in place of 'his music'?)

I think you'd better use it instead of him.

E.g.

It's been quite a long time since I heard it.
