I may have the spelling of "saline/salian"wrong because I've only overheard people using it.

Hi Cooliegirl

Assuming the word you heard is saline, the best I could do without further context is to give you dictionary definitions of the words saline and need (which I assume you already know), and guess that the phrase refers literally to a need for saline (salt) or possibly a need for a saline solution.
