Hi Roseli
That sentence doesn't make sense to me with any of the options. I'd say it's just a badly written sentence.
Possibly they wanted to write a sentence saying that it's especially unpleasant when your fan fizzles out on a very hot day, or that the cooling effect of a fan tends to fizzle out when the weather gets too hot.
fizzle out By the way, you should say "I have a question." . |

Hi, Amy
So, the verb "fizzle out" doesn't work in the continuous form, right?
And another question: maybe we can say that the fan is acting up ?
Thanks ! |

Hi Alex
Fizzle out can also be used in a continuous tense.
And, yes, I can imagine (especially) an old fan acting up (i.e. not functioning properly or functioning erratically).
If the motor overheats, it might even freeze up. . |

Hi Roseli,
T think you can either say: It's too hot today and the fan is...... or
It's so hot today that the fan is ...
As for 'fizzle', 'act up' seems a good one or another expression to describe that the fan can't handle it or is working erratically, would be 'is on the blink'.

If you don't wish to make it possible for people to decide whether their online status is hidden or not, why do you have the option?
Speaking of hidden, it seems that either there are quite a few hidden discussions going on or there is no discussion whatsoever going on with reference to some of the questions raised about the tests. To me, the latter would be akin to sticking one's head in the sand. The former is anything but 'open'. . |
