By the way, I do not consider the word 'jaywalking' to be slang. Not in AmE, anyway. . _________________ "Nearly all men can stand adversity, but if you want to test a man's character, give him power." ~ Abraham Lincoln |

Hello Yankee I bought the latest edition of Oxford Advanced Learner's Dictionary where the idioms are enumerating. But jaywalk is that's all: jaywalk /v/(i) to walk along or across a street illegally without paying attention to the traffic. jaywalker /n/ jaywalking /n/(U) |

Hi,
I went through this word a while back and I thought that ''jaywalking'' was merely for people who they cross the street without using the crosswalk. |

Hi,
I see that everybody agree that to jaywalk is when everybody crosses the streat illegally this means he/she doesn't use the zebra crossing, doesn't take into consideration the traffic lights etc. For this the person can be fined by the policeman. The question was that whether it is an idiomatic expression or not. Till now nobody find an example that it would be an idiomatic expression. |
