All the sudents got high marks in the test but Mary stood out.

(a) got a lot of marks

(d) got the most marks of all

it is still not clear for me, shouldn't it be she has got the best marks of all.
The most marks means that not everybody gets marks?

If Mary got the most marks, she got more marks than anyone else which means that she was the best.
