In your country, what does it take these days to deserve the label "patriot" and what of what does "anti-patriotism" consist?

That depends on whom you ask here in the States:

A hippie might say that a patriot is someone who decides to boycott showers, Wal-Mart, deodorant, combs/brushes, scissors, the laundering of clothes, the principles of capitalism/free enterprise, and personal responsibility.

Everyday Joe would likely tell you that a patriot is someone who backs the interests of the United States, who supports our troops, etc.

Do you still have hippies?

1. What do you see as the difference between nationalism and patriotism?

Quote:
2. Some critics have maintained that (unlike modern nationalism, which is a creation of the 19th-century nation state) authentic patriotism (as the Latin 'pater' would suggest) must be based in some form of genophilia and the sharing of ancestors.

Would any of you agree with those critics?

Nowadays, while the big globalisation, noone can be a ´nationalist´ or ´patriot´ unless we broaden these terms to ´earthonalism´, and some centuries from now ´universalism´ perhaps?

However, people are working on this issue.
