I felt very honoured at the opportunity to display my talent.

Is 'at' the correct preposition?

Thanks a lot.

Yes or "with" but I don't think "at" is correct

What's the meaning of honoured? Because I know only 'someone is respected and admired' and 'to feel very proud and pleased (to do)'. In the first case we use with or for.

Of course 'I felt very honoured ... ' is not wrong, otherwise the other members wouldn't have replied to my post.

Perhaps smb can let him express so,it isn't wrong but of course we had better say smth like "I'm proud "(in this case we use to do,as you have already written or to be proud of smb or smth, also there is an expression to be proud in being Americans, for instance.
Anyway,we can't say to be honoured at (we use by or with)as it isn't only grammaticaly incorrect but also the meaning of the sentence is spoilt.

Didn't like my picture, did you? Never said it's incorrect. I couldn't understand the meaning of the sentence. (just misunderstanding) Smile

It has nothing to do with your looks. In fact, you've a pleasant look.

HamburgEnglish said, "So no answer yet?" And I'll have to wait for some member who can let me know what the correct preposition is.

Hi,

I don't really think you can be honoured at or by an opportunity. It would perhaps be better to write:

Quote:
I felt very honoured to have the opportunity to display my talent.

The reason I suggest this is because an opportunity can't really 'honour'.

Hi everybody
I think we can say "I felt very honoured with ..., or for ... or by ..."
But to say " .... honoured at the apportunity" I think it's wrong

I'm a new member. Actually I have some doubts on the usage of the English Grammar and I would like to put forward my questions today. However, I have a great shock & feel so disgusting & sick when I saw those sexual pictures posted by 'esaniyansws' . Those pictures spoil my mood. Can someone tell me what happened & do something about it? I hope this will not happen again at our ESL Forums. Thanks.

Dear NEJ,

Many thanks for joining our forum. As far as I can see our forum is spam-free and of course we appreciate any help to keep it that way. We look forward to your grammar questions.
