Can some one please tell me if the following sentence (in italics) is OK?

Steve! I am getting an error. Would you look to see why?

Don't forget that 'someone' should be written as one word.

look to see #6 (permalink) Fri Jan 08, 2010 23:13 pm   look to see

Oh, yes, it is certainly common usage these days, but that doesn't make it grammatically correct. One should instead say "would you look at seeing why?" Don't use "look to" with a verb, only with a noun. e.g. "I look to my friend for advice," or "I'm looking at doing something else."

Bad start here, Bob.

Blues look to end streak
India look to break dead-rubber jinx
Ultracapacitors look to fit into energy storage

etc.

How about using the “look” as a noun ?
For example, "Steve! I am getting an error. Would you take a look to see why?"
Is this OK ?
Are they the same? If not, which one is better ?

That's fine, too, in conversation. 'Take a look' is more friendly, as it suggests a short examination.

Hi,

It's probably just me, but I don't really recall people around me saying "look to see".
More often they'd say "can you look into it" and, as nick suggested, "take a look".
