Hi,

The difference between 'speak' and 'talk' is that 'speak' can often describe simply uttering or saying something and 'talk' is more to do with conversing or making conversation as in:

She talked to the doctor about the problems she was having with her baby. (They had a chat/conversation/discussion)

She spoke to the receptionist before she left in order to make her next appointment with the doctor. (She simply said: I want to make an appointment to see Dr ***)
