Hi,

Have you ever heard of 'crowd-controllers'? From what I can see, it's a term that describes Australian and/or British police officers with special tasks. Are you familiar with the term?

Thanks,
Torsten

Hi Torsten,

I don't know of the word 'crowd controller' although the police in the UK (often mounted on horses) do have as one of their duties to control crowds.

I know crowd control: Police used fire hoses and dogs for crowd control.
And have you ever heard of 'people pushers'? :)

By the way, I've found no result for "crowd-controller" or "people pusher" on the BNC and some other online dictionaries.
When I checked them on Google, about 495 results were found for "people pusher" and about 15500 results were found for "crowd controller" :)

Trains and subways can become very crowded during peak commuting hours. In Tokyo, some stations have “people pushers” to help cram as many people as possible onto the trains.

Hi Nessie,

I have to suggest a note of caution with all these devices that record the use/usage of words/expressions and that is to remember the context. If someone asked: What do you do for a job? and the answer came back: I'm a people pusher, they would have to explain exactly what that means.
