How American is the phrase "tips and tricks"? #1 (permalink) Fri May 02, 2008 22:05 pm   How American is the phrase "tips and tricks"?

It just occurred to me that the phrase "tips and tricks" seems to be pretty popular on the Internet but according to the BNC it's rather unpopular in the UK. Would you classify 'ticks and trips' as an American phrase or is it just 'international English'?

Uh... is that 'tips and tricks' or 'ticks and trips' you're asking about? I think the former is pretty common in a certain genre of writing (self-help, salesmanship, hobbyists, etc). The latter is limited to wilderness adventurers.
