For us, for Israel and for the other countries, particularly in Europe, where Iran was sponsoring jihadist bombings and bloodbaths. |

So, better to be tortured by a Shah than an Ayatollah, right? Go SAVAK!
Remember Mohammed Massadegh, Jamie?
BTW, does your "the world", above, include pre-Iranian Revolution Iranians living in Iran?

Which son? Surely you don't mean Anastasio Jr?

Ms Molly ... I see that "love" is in the air again. How much do you know about men ? To impress a boy you don't need to attack him.
Are you some energetic vampir ? (Person who lives from confrontations to confrontations just to be able to suck somebody's else vigour??)

Who overthrew Pinochet? Who overthrew the Saudi royal family? Who overthrew President Hosni Mubarak? Who replaced Suharto?
And on...
Does America always need to abandon her democratic principles when needing to meet her short-term military and diplomatic needs? |

I have to be impressed by a boy before I begin trying to impress him. Get my drift? |

Nobody. He called for a referendum in 1988 on his remaining in power, and he lost with only 44.1% of the vote (a pretty good showing for such a bad buy; about the same percentage Bill Clinton got in both his elections). He stepped down from the presidency but remained commander in chief of the armed forces. This transition was done with the encouragement of Pope John Paul II, and I believe also with pressure from the US government, which rightly presses their goons to step down when their usefulness at quelling Marxism, Islamic radicalism, or whatever, is over.

Nobody, but the Taliban are sure trying. From bad to worse, if they succeed.

He's still president, but the Taliban are sure trying. From bad to worse, if they succeed.
| Molly wrote: | | Who replaced Suharto? |
His deputy Jusuf Habibie.

Not always. We didn't abandon them when occupying Japan or Germany, and not in South Korea, not in Grenada, ultimately not in the Philippines, etc., etc., etc. |

If our goon had quelled all opposition, then there wouldn't have been anyone to oppose him in elections, would there have! |

Japan? After it became a direct threat to the USA. Grenada? After it became a direct threat to the USA. The Philippines? "According to historian Gregorio Zaide, as many as 200,000 civilians died, largely because of famine and disease, by the end of the war. Atrocities were committed on both sides." http://www.onwar.com/aced/data/papa/philippines1899.htm
South Korea?
"South Korea
Human Rights Concerns
One of the most important human rights issue in South Korea continues to be the National Security Law, which is used arbitrarily to curtail the right to freedom of expression and association, providing long sentences or the dealth penalty for loosely defined ‘anti-state’ activities."
