Nobody. He called for a referendum in 1988 on his remaining in power, and he lost with only 44.1% of the vote (a pretty good showing for such a bad buy; about the same percentage Bill Clinton got in both his elections). Not always. We didn't abandon them when occupying Japan or Germany, and not in South Korea, not in Grenada, ultimately not in the Philippines, etc., etc., etc. |
