TOEFL essay: Most experiences in our lives that seemed difficult at the time... Tue May 06, 2008 5:02 am  TOEFL essay: Most experiences in our lives that seemed difficult at the time...

Do you agree or disagree with the following statement? Most experiences in our lives that seemed difficult at the time become valuable lessons for the future. Use reasons and specific examples to support our answer.

Difficulty has been an integral component of people’s lives throughout human history. A number of opinions maintain that obstacles which hamper peoples’ progress make no positive sense. However, I am personally convinced that occurrences that prove to be daunting in one time would become extremely precious in the future. This piece of writing will thoroughly clarify the rationale for my perspective.

Being exposed to considerable barriers hones people’s perseverance. A person who succeeded in surmounting formidable hindrances would probably be trained hard to become a sturdy individual. For instance, a university student who manages to cope with heavy course loads and participate in extra-curricular activities simultaneously would certainly find arduous tasks in a business after graduation exceedingly easy and familiar. By contrast, an educatee who is indolent during higher education period is more than likely to see himself or herself unable to endure tremendous pressure from professional requirements. Actually, an individual is able to become tenacious only when that person is faced with arduousness.

Seemingly insurmountable impediments are likely to present challenge-takers with invaluable experience. In a bid to overcome hurdles, a person is undoubtedly capable of absorbing remarkably useful lessons which are able to assist that individual in dealing with future dilemmas. An inexperienced graduate who is appointed as the head of the administration department of a state-owned company thanks to his intimate connection with the firm’s director would obviously be unable to cope with ordinary troubles which represent imperative part of the work. Conversely, a young businessman who succeeds in resolving a multitude of obstacles in finance, sale, marketing etc. when establishing his own start-up would definitely grow competent to address an array of business issues. Indeed, experiences collected in an effort to remove substantial hindrances prove to be an essential factor leading an individual to success.

In conclusion, significant hurdles challenging a person is likely to provide that individual with perseverance and experience which are crucial factors that constitute the key to triumph. Thus, almost all people are highly recommended to try their utmost to clear up obstructions deterring their paths to successfulness.
