Just got my TOEFL score! Planning to have it rescored. Fri May 23, 2008 2:43 am  Just got my TOEFL score! Planning to have it rescored.

hi! i took the toefl iBt exam last may 3. I scored a total of 93. I only need 83 to have my visa screen but the thing is they are asking for a score of 26 in the speaking section and I only scored 24 at that part of the exam.

I found out in the TOEFL iBT conversion for rubrics score to scaled scores that you can't have a score of 25, which basically means that I only need 1 more point to have 26. I'm planning to apply for a rescore in toefl because they are allowing test takers to do that w/in 3 months after taking the exam.

My only question is if ever I have my speaking part rescored, will my score has a higher chance of increasing or they may decrease it? Because it cost $60 just to have one section of the 4 part exam to be rescored. It's too much!

What other advice you can give me? Pls. help! Sad Thank you..

Hi laga,

I've just received my score, and just like you I scored a lousy 24 in the Speaking section. The overall result is fairly good (111), but I'm dissatisfied with my performance in the speaking. You mentioned "they are asking for a 26 in the speaking section". Who are they? Cos I'm planning to apply to some Mba programs in the US, do they demand for a minimum of 26 in each section?

im a nurse in the philippines. I'm planning to apply for a visa screen program so I can work here in the US. They are only asking for a total score of 83 but the speaking part must be 26. I just got 24 and I'm planning to have it rescored. Is it advisable to do it becauses it costs $60? because I need to have that 26 so bad.

I believe that we both should go for rescoring. It seems like you have some very valid reasons for it (probably more valid than mine), so definetely go for it!! I can't predict our odds to have our scores improved, but I believe that it's still worth a try.
Take care!!

I notice that when they are rescoring ,they usually increase total score, not decrease. So, don't be afraid, go ahead and apply for rescoring of your speaking section.Good luck!!!
