HY!

I just made the test about finish and end. I had 4 mistakes, because i don't understand well when to use one and when the other. Which is the difference between them.
Thank you!

Hy again!

I would like to tell something related to the lessons you are sending to me.
I know English pretty well, I know a lot of vocabulary and I'm able to understand your letters without problem. But I think they are really hard to understand for those who just start to learn English. I'm talking about the letters sent to the email, not about the related links in the lessons.
When I first joined your website, my purpose was to find some materials for beginners. But as I started to learn and read the lessons (i've learned 4 of them with listening) I realized that the letters are difficult for beginners. And I can give you some reasons as well. It doesen
t matter if you want to speak about personal pronouns or about something else they can't understand well because you use all the verb tenses. And you can imagine that a beginner in a good situation maybe knows some present tenses , not all of the verb tenses. How could I do to use your lessons for helping beginners in their studies?

Regards,
Julia

Hello Thu Aug 14, 2008 6:37 am  Hello

Dear Mr. Torsten,

Thank you for English lesson no. 11. I learned so many things from this lesson. Regarding Months

Sue's favorite month is May. She likes this month very much because in the month of May spring turns into summer. I also like May but my favorite month is December. Because in December we celebrate Christmas, the birth of Jesus Christ.

You also asked for our opinion for learning the English most effectively. My practical experience is read, listen / hear and write more and more again and again in English. So that we can improve our English day by day.

This week end we celebrate our country's independence day. It is on 15th August.

Thank you very much for your English lessons once again.

Best wishes

Rani

Hi Julia,

Thanks a lot for sharing your experiences and ideas regarding our email English lessons. As of now, more than 35.000 people have subscribed to the newsletter/email course. I think that some of them are beginners, some are intermediate, others are advanced learners and some of them are native speakers of English. I really would like to know how our subscribers define their level of English and that's why I started this topic.

You are right, in my emails I do use different tenses some of which might be new to some of our learners. But then again, that's what learning is all about, isn't? If a learner doesn't know a phrase, they can ask us any time here on the forum and we will help them. Based on my experience, you can learn English in many different ways. As a matter of fact, the sooner you get exposed to different tenses, the better.

Let me know what you think.
Regards,
Torsten

Hi Torsten,

I don’t have the mp3 player device on my PC to listen to the recording but I have been able to read the transcript.

The answers to the following questions are as follows:

Question: What company does Sue work for?
Answer: Sue works for a large financial company

Question: What time does she usually start work?
Answer: She usually starts work at 8:45am

Question: Why does she enjoy the personal contact with her clients?
Answer: She enjoys the personal contact with her clients because they have different careers and are of all ages.

Please make corrections where necessary.

Thanks
Julie.

Hi Julie,

Thanks a lot for your answers. It's obvious that you are serious about learning English and you have already achieved a lot. The only thing you might want to take a look at again is the phrase "they have different careers". I know exactly what you mean and the combination might be grammatically correct. It's just that it doesn't sound very natural. I'm sure you know how to say it differently.

Talk to you soon,
Torsten

Hello Torsten,

Thanks for your reply. I will like to know why the phrase doesn’t sound very natural.
I will say it differently in two ways whichever is ok please let me know.

(1) They all have different social /career affiliations
(2) They come from all works of life
