Hi Mr.Torsten,
Here are the answers to English Lesson 3:
What company does Sue work for?----Sue works for a large financial company.
What time does she usually start work?----Sue usually starts work at 8:45 and she finishes about 5:15.
Why does she enjoy the personal contact with her clients?----Sue enjoys the personal contact with her clients because they are from all walks of life and come of age.

And as I was listening to the audio, there were some words or phrase of words that confused me with the way they've been used in the sentences.I went to the transcript of the recording to read and check them.I have some questions and kindly correct me if I'm wrong. In this sentence,'My workplace is very close by ....'I would prefer;'My work place is near by....'for this sentence;'It's good exercise';I will go like this;'It's a good exercise...'in the transcript,it's written like this;'There are ten people in our office...' but after reading it I found out that there were eleven people, and the sentence should go like this;'There are eleven people in our office, seven financial advisors,a customer manager,a company trainer,a coach and our area manager...' the next one is;'My job is to handle the day to day administration for my area manager who has ten offices to run...' for me is like this,'My job is to handle the day to day administration of the area manager who has ten offices to run..' i hope you wont get tired reading these,,,next is;' I also help develop training needs analysis for our coach...'again for me is,'I also help develop training courses to be analyzed by our coach....'or 'I also help develop staff training for analysis and I devise informational spreadsheets..' lastly,'. I enjoy the personal contact with them as they come form all walks of life and are all ages.' for this sentence I would prefer like this,'I enjoy the personal contact with them as they are from all walks of life and come of age...'i hope to hear from you soon..bye for now.

Hello Torsten!!!

Thank you for sending me by e-mail the lesson number 3

I found it easy to understand because my english is of an intermediate level, but I want to do the beginner excersices, because there are lot of words that I don't know the meaning.

For example in the text of Susan:

I don't understand what's the meaning of "Come from all walks of life"

Many thanks
Maddy

end vs finish #1987 (permalink) Tue Mar 23, 2010 16:55 pm   end vs finish

Hello Torsten,

Regarding the test "end vs finish" I got 7 out of 10 answer correctly, you know I had some doubts about the use of them. I was reading the explanations of Alan, and I understand that finish is used when you manage something to be finished, and end when something ends in a natural way. Is that correct? I hope so.

Waiting for your prompt answer

hello everyone,
I'd like to ask a question. This sentence is correct "I usually get up at about 6:30 and the first thing I do is switch on the radio. ".
Why verb "do" near verb "is"?

Hello everybody,

My name's Le and i'm from Vietnam. Well, i'm not so sure of what i'm doing but i do know just for now i have to get through myself and start working on my English.

I have started learning English since i was in the secondary school. I muss confess that I hated learning English until I realized how importance and useful english for my job is.

I know that people may say “it’s just an excuse!” but I would like to share with all of you my experience why did I hate learning English!

I just was a little girl, living in small village calls Da Kai, interessting in nothing but playing games with her friends. English was a boring hours for me in the school and my english teacher treated us so badly. I hardly tried to learn and to improve my english but it didn't work out. I was the one in the class that got most punishment because of being bad in English. When we had english lession, i didn't want to go to school and tried to avoid it by crying to my parents and telling them that I’m sick!. My parents thought that i didn't fit for the class and tried to find out why? My score in others subject were fine except english ( no wonder!). My Parents absolutly have the right to doubt on me because they knew that i was 2 years younger than the others in the class and it make sense why i was slower than the others. But after all, they finally found out the real reason. I was frightened of the english teacher. I was so afraid of him that all my thoughs went only around if he looks to me, if he will name me to the blackboard....Well, It sound ridiculous but it’s the truth.

Years after years i passed the last exame in the secondary school and went to high school and then university but my english is still badly till now. I didn't have much or even enough money as the others students to pay extra for english class. I started to work part-time in the evening as a cashier at a club to get money for my study and to pay my living expense. I earned a lot and could save enough money for the last year in University but it also took my concentrate on Study and time…Time flies and I’m still stucked with English. The difficulties were somehow an good explanation but I do know the biggest problem is myself.

Well, I know there are a lot of grammar mistakes but I don’t care. Because I will learn it now and have someone ever said: “ Never say never” and “ Never too late to learn”?

And the last, I’m glad to know this Website and my private coach Torsten. Hi Torsten, you gave me a lot of tasks to do. I know that I’m slowly but I will finish all one by one.

Thanks for your attention and good bye
Have a nice weekend everybody

Hi Le,
- Just found that your story is like mine.
- using poor vocaburaly and grammar, mistakes in using words and making sentences
- had been bad at English until entered university
- on the way of improving English => need helps from everyone
- no right or wrong in speaking Enligh with British accent or Amerian accent provided that speaking correctly with your own accent that everyone can understand. For me, I like American accent => just following it and determined to reach that goal
- never old to learn, never say never => slow but will reach it
Looking forward to hearing from you

Good Morning All...I'm new to this forum and hope you all will help me out in learning English.
As per the test is concerned the answers are:

A. Sue works for a large financial company.
B. She usually starts her work at 8:45 in the morning.
C. She enjoys the personal contact with her clients as they come from the all walks of life and are of all ages.
Here, I want to state one thing i.e. Jorge has written :"...many thing are known by me" I think "know" doesn't carry the preposition "by" it is "known to me".
If i have made any mistake and any improvement is needed do feel free to let me know..
