I think on will be enough, but I'm not sure of the expression 'washing pole' (I don't know it, actually.) May be 'the washing line'? _________________ I am an incurable optimist. |

If you Google "washing pole" in Google images, you can see a few examples of such. |

| As Inga said, I think too that 'washing line' should have been applied and 'up' could be omitted without grammatical error. However, with 'up', the sentence would add a motion to the picture that the clothes are being hung up onto the washing line and suggest at the same time that the washing line is higher than the housewife/maid/etc. |

Not sure. I guess a washing pole has lines, but I see a single rope as a "washing line". |

I know washing line, and I think you may never seen the washing pole, it's about 2 meters long, solid pole made of wood. thanks for your suggestion |

| I think a pole is a long and hard stick thing but not a soft line. If you say 'washing pole' I feel it must be some kind of 'window washing poles' which are hard and stick out of window so you don't hang cleaned clothes 'up on' them. |
