. "The mid-central, neutral vowel sound typically occurring in unstressed syllables in English, however spelled, as the sound of a in alone and sofa, e in system, i in easily, o in gallop, u in circus".
It is usually represented by an upside-down 'e'. . _________________ Native English teacher at Mister Micawber's |

| Hi, are there different ways of pronouncing the word "Monday"? It seems that the British version has a schwa at the end while the Americans pronounce is as 'mʌndeɪ. |
Some people say [mʌndei], and some people say [mʌndi]. It doesn't seem to matter which country you live in, and you can see the variation even within the same household. Both my US and UK dictionaries give [mʌndei] as the primary pronunciation and [mʌndi] as the secondary one.
Using a schwa at the end would sound sloppy to me. |
