data carrier checks vs. data media checks

Hi,

What do you call the process of checking computer data carriers? Can it be "data media checks" or "data carrier checks"? I mean the process of checking data storage media like your hard drive or USB stick for viruses and physical damage.

Not sure about the specific term, but I'd call it a volume check.
