My primary operating system is Macintosh OS 10.5, which is a form of Unix. There are two ways to run Windows on a Mac. One is to partition the hard drive and run Windows as a separately booting operating system, which means you can't share files between the two systems. The other way is to use an emulator program to create a "virtual machine" and install Windows in that. When you use the emulator, Windows opens up in a separate window, or you can run it "invisibly" and operate the Windows programs without seeing the Windows desktop or menus. The emulator allows you to share files between the Mac OS and Windows, even drag and drop files between the two OS's. The crazy part -- and I refused to believe this until I tried it -- is that Vista and XP often run faster in emulation on a Mac than native on a PC.
The advertisements for Macintosh computers make fun of Vista a lot. My favorite one is at this page: http://www.apple.com/getamac/ads/ Click on "2007" and click on the ad that says "Security". I think it's funny, and it reflects my experience with the two systems. |
