Are you looking for moderator status here, Mr P-reacher?

Try "Jamie questions foolishly: "Or blacks".
Naa, you couldn't bring yesel to do that, now could ya, Mr P. |

You've already nonchalantly agreed that Jamie's "Or blacks" is "covered" by your earlier formulation:

Or blacks! Would you agree? |
Covered here:

| or anyone else who is out of favour at a given time |
|
Therefore you have no grounds for your later objection, unless you now disagree with your earlier post.
All the best,
MrP |

Does anyone here actually ever debate English grammar, or is this simply a forum for nit-picking each other's posts and trying for a pertual game of one-upsmanship?
Wouldn't learers of English who come here for enlightenment be better served with a discussion of how the first sentence was ambiguous and how to resolve the ambiguity than this tit-for-tat and name-calling? I'm appalled. |

You're right, but this is one of those wild Internet forums where people post what they want. You'll find there's a pattern to who creates the most antagonism, and this person has a great knack for deliberately eliciting emotional reactions. At some sites, a moderator might delete that person's posts and things would simmer down, but this is one of those forums that's about "freedom", and the moderators are very hands off.
You'll also notice, though, that if the person ignores the irrelevant posts, he or she nearly always gets a solid answer to the question. That's part of the skill of navigating some Internet forums.
A certain person is going to post an antagonistic response to this explanation. Pay attention to who it is, and you'll start to understand the current dynamics of the forum. (It wasn't always like this.) |

Well you've only been here a couple of days, so I might be difficult for you to judge. |

| However, having read through the first page of threads, I see a common theme. Of course, few are so blind as though who will not see. |

| Jamie, so as not to be exactly what I just said shouldn't be here, I should not have responded at all. Be assured, it's obvious to even the most casual observer where the isues lie. And now, I promise, I won't respond to this thread again unless someone actually has a problem with some of the grammar issues raised. |

You shouldn't talk that way about Mr P. And that schoolyard "She/He does it more than I do" attitude will get you no Brownie points with "new" members. |
