dissimilar - not the same divergent (in one of the meanings) developed in different ways and so are no longer similar
I think they are synonyms? divergent views Madonna's career is not dissimilar to (=is quite similar to) Cher's. _________________ I am an incurable optimist. |

similar is almost the same. We have similar tastes in music. They went to the same school. (If they go to similar schools, it's not one and the same school, but two different schools with the same programme or system, or curriculum, etc.)[/b] _________________ I am an incurable optimist. |

Could you shed light on that, please? |

Six is the same as "half a dozen." They are equivalent. "Chick peas" is just another name for "garbonzo beans." Chick peas and garbonzo beans are the same.
On the other hand, sugar snap peas have a similiar appearance to some types of beans. You have to be careful when shopping to make sure you buy what you mean to. |

. No. Inga-- they are similar. Both peaches and pears are of the family Rosaceae, but they are different genera. . _________________ Canadian-American native speaker who teaches English for a living at Mister Micawber's ESL cafe: Interview with Mister Micawber |
