Sentence "They elected her to be the president"? Fri Jun 20, 2008 17:54 pm  Sentence "They elected her to be the president"?

Hi,
Which of these are correct:

1/ They elected her to be the president
2/ They elected her the president
3/ They elected her as the president.

=> I think 1 is correct and 2 is incorrect, but I'm not sure about 3. By the way, is there any other way of expressing the idea?

Many thanks.
Nessie.
