"Heart" (affection) is countable? Tue Jul 01, 2008 16:47 pm  "Heart" (affection) is countable?

Which is correct,
"she has beautiful heart",
or "she has a beautiful heart"?

In this sentence, I mean "affection" by "heart".
I believe this "heart" is uncountable.

Could anyone help me?
Thanks.

Hi Teddy

Welcome to the site.

It seems to me that collating the word beautiful with heart would most likely be done by someone such as a cardiologist -- in which case the word heart would literally be a blood-pumping organ found inside her body.

However, if I want to use the word heart to refer figuratively to the location of feelings and emotions, I would most likely use the word countably in a context such as yours:

She has a big heart.
She has a soft heart.
She has a wonderful heart.
She has a kind heart.
She has a broken heart.
