The usually accepted date for the begininig of opera as we know IT is 1600.

Thw word it refers to

1. opera
2.date
3.era
4.music

how is the answer opera? i'm confused. Shudn't be date

P.S ne news on negative marking in toefl?

It refers to opera: The beginning of opera as we know it (the way opera is perceived nowadays).
No negative marking in the TOEFL, you can only gain positive marks.
