Dear Sir, I'm happy to learn on this webside you. I had read the plain of speaking already. however, it's not really interesting and difficult to understand. I would like to prefer the communication about business. Thanks you alot for helping me to improve English.

Hi Alan, I've just read your letter and I really enjoyed it. There were news words I didn't know which is very good for me to improve my vocabulary. As far as I'm concerned, I hate beating around the bush and I always use a straight way to say what I want to. I don't like people who use to say in an hour what they could say in a few words. Different strokes, for different folks...... Regards, Régine |

Dear Alan Townend,
Thank you for your stimulating articles about speaking figuratively. Yes, I am an English teacher and find figurative language very important in communication. I'd certainly like to see more articles on the topic. Thank you again.
Kind wishes Li Derong (liderong@online.sh.cn) |

Hi I really enjoyed Alan's lesson on figuratively speaking and i have learnt quite a lot.. I think i would enjoy communicating using both plain and figurative speech. Only one of the two would become boring or misunderstood ( as in the case of figurative speech). Thanks |

thanks a lot for your interesting articles, it's rich but hard to understand very well. for me am a learner for english, but i had the opportunity to teach it for one year only, it was soooo nice and am proud of it. as far as my talking style i'd prefer to tell the truth and i don't mind of the listener. is it the style of Jack Blunt? |

This is to "what kind of communication style do you prefer? "......I prefer being straightforward many times...but also i experiment with other kinds of communication as in i also like beating around the bush...either ways ...whatever the conversation is..I make use of both ways of communication...I am qite comfortable with both the communicating styles.
Also I am a student ...I do know english quite well.. but I want to improve my english since I am preparing for MBA exams in India and also for GMAT. |

Hello! I like to communicate with people in different ways. Actually it doesn't even matter weather to speak to pearson by e-mail or just to look into his eyes. Another question is what is better for improveing communicative skills... |

Hello,
I’m not an English teacher, though I have spent some good years working in and for education. I’m just trying to learn more and to improve my level of English language as much I can with your support. I haven’t learned English during my education/school time/.I started to learn it by my own some years ago using dictionaries and different available books. Therefore, this online opportunity, for me, is blessing, because I like your methodology.
I would, also, like to share with you my opinion about the communication and let you know that I enjoyed reading it.
In one hand, communication style that I prefer in my daily life while I communicate with diverse nationalities living in one society is plain one. I want to hear and send as much as possible clear messages in order to be understood better and avoid misunderstandings. And for sure, it is much easier to understand this style.
On the other hand, when I communicate with friends of my nationality then I often enjoy listening and using figurative language because of its philosophy I am familiar with. Language issues are related to social issues. If I don't know very well the history and mentality of the nation whose language I'm speaking, then it is difficult to me to understand figurative expressions. But, I am here to learn so hopefuly will get better by time.
Finally, Jack Blunt style is also necessary in our daily life, we all need some laughings.
Best regards. |
