I would like to thank you too much for your efforts to help me ( us ) to improve our English. About the speaking style I have, I am not a Jack Blunt, I really try to be attractive in my way of speaking.

hi all
ican tell you my opinion whether in astraight way or using some kind of figurative languge but ithink that it is not amatter of what kind of communication i prefer but its amatter of what adefinite situation demands so i prefer using both kinds of communication according to situation,

Hi dear Alan,

I am very pleased to read all your interesting articles about English grammar. Also I do enjoy your explanations about the differnt ways of expressing our ideas, like this last article in which you say "English is the biggest rag bag of all languages, picking words from wherever it fancies". That`s right, I enjoy it!

I am English teacher and have 10 students (a factory staff) in Mexico.

Thank you very much again for your great help.

Hi! It's always pleasant to read from you. As you can see, we cannot always call a spade a spade. And this helps avoid some blunders between people. Here in Senegal when we want to inform people of someone's death, we say that he has slept ( knowing that we needn't inform anyone about a healthy person who is sleeping).Or again we can say that the person has given up eating rice ( we cannot imagine someone living in this country without eating rice because it is the basis of most meals in this country). And the figures of speech such as metaphors or hyperboles show the beauty of language.
