Dear Alan Townend,

I am a learner but I wish to be an English teacher. I know it is too difficult for me but I try in my best.
I like to learn English so much. I'm not self-confident when I speak English and in my grammar I make many mitakens.
Can you tell me how I learn English so that I get my goal?
Hope my English is improved with your help.

Thanks .

Good morning,

I wish to thank all the English support group or members. I appreciate all the lectures and materials sent to me. Regarding the material i just received, i will like to say that i enjoyed the simile and the metaphor used in the materials. Before i forget, i will very much appreciate materials on how to effectively communicate both in writing and verbal communications.
Look forward to hear from you.

Hello!
My name's Alex and I'm from Serbia. And yes, I'm a teacher of English and a learner, too. Unfortunately, I've never been to an English speaking country, so I really appreciate every opportunity to communicate to native speakers and , of course, to techers all over the world. I really liked the "Figurativelly Speaking" newsletter and even learned a new word - gobbledygook!
Also, I want to share an interesting Serbian phrase for a person who always says what he thinks. We say that such a person hasn't got hairs on his tongue. Can you imagine that?!
Regards,
Alex

Dear Shri Alan Townend,

Thank you very much for your newsletter. It helps one in enriching one's vocabulary and improve english language. There is a word in Hindi "Spashtvadi" for a person who loves plainspeaking. Though I am a person who call a spade a spade, yet I would not like to be called a 'Jack Blunt'. Please keep on hepling those people who are not native speaker of english and whose standard of english language is not upto the mark.

May God bless you.

language style #72 (permalink) Fri Jul 04, 2008 9:49 am   language style

Hi ! I would like to speak figurative language because it makes interest to listener, it is good to speak plain, if a message is short, but if one has to give speech on some topic then figurative language may be the best.

Hi, Alan, hi, Torsten! This letter I found extremely useful. So many interesting expressions and literary terms! I'm not very good at literature and styles of language. I'd like to know more idiomatic expressions and situations where they can be used. As for 'calling a spade a spade', we have expression 'to call things their names', or use Shakespeare's words (but I can't remember exact words in English): a rose smells a rose whatever you call it.

Hi Torsten,

I will say am like Juck Blunt straight foward and Short temper I don't take nonsense. Sometimes I think it is not good i keep quiet just to avoid having enemies but in side my heart it is hearting me. It is good to be honest with people, be straight forward and telling them what is good and not good even though many don't like hearing the truth.
