Meanings of the phrase: I have three boys, kids or sons #1 (permalink) Sat Jul 05, 2008 1:18 am   Meanings of the phrase: I have three boys, kids or sons

Dear Torsten,

If I have three sons; talking about them what should I say "I have three boys ,kids or sons", "the big one is..or the elder one is or the fist is or what", "the next is..or the other is...or what,"the small one is...or the smallest is...or what". How can I say the time of my marriage ,is it right to say "I have married since 2000 or I have married since eight years or I have married in 2000 . What is the difference between I sit on the bed and I sit in bed.

many thanks for you,
Amiranow

Hi,

A lot of questions! I would say: I have three sons. The oldest (eldest) is **** The middle one is **** and The youngest is ****. I have been married for eight years/ I got married in 2000. I sit/am sitting on the bed suggests you are using the bed as a seat and I sit/am sitting in bed suggests that you are in bed because you are not well or are ready to go to sleep/go to bed.

Hi , Alan

you don't reply about how could you correct my answers during having a test. There are many tests which I can check my answers but I want to discuss with you the answers. An example of what I have said"choose:don' hang ......to me!we have to talk.a-on b-in c-up . If I choose up and you crrect my answer ,it is ok but I want to ask about other two preposion.By way "bully"; is it right to say bully boy or bully. If Iwant to tell my friend about my birthday time is it correct to say "It is on August,2nd."

thanks,

Hi Amira,

I think it's best if you create for each question a separate forum message. For example, your first message could be titled "difference between handkerchief and tissue". Another one could be phrasal verb "hang on to", the third "bully or bully boy"? etc. This will make it easier for you to keep track of all the answers.

Let me know what you think.
Regards,
Torsten

Handkerchief is a general term. A handkerchief can be made of various materials while a tissue is usually made of paper. Please post your next question here.

Many thanks,
Torsten
