How can I rewrite the above sentence?
I think of only one way....
Football is the most kind of sport I like.
But it seems to be wrong.

"of all.." is a comparative phrase
It takes a group of things and says "i like this the best" (in this case)

if you leave out sports we don't know what you are comparing it to
its your favourite hobby?
sport?
TV programme?

you need to show us (or the person you speaking to) what you are comparing the football too :)

Even if you put "sports" you wouldn't know whether the person likes it as a hobby or a TV programme, in my opinion.

I'd go with what TD (no pun intended) offered:

Football is my favorite sport.

The original sentence didn't convey whether (s)he enjoyed playing or watching football, only that (s)he liked it best.

1. I like football the best
2. I like football the most
3. I like football best
4. I like football most

Oh by the way, for me, while were discussing, the whole time I was thinking of the one that people play with foot, the no hands allowed one. :P

Of all sports, football is the one I like better.

Of all sports, football is the one I like best/most.

=>You are comparing football to more than one type of sports.

Compare it to this:

I like ice cream better/more than I like football.

=>You are comparing it with one thing only.
