You swim faster in the river (provided you swim along with the current;)

But to be serious. 'Salt water' is more dense than ,sweet water' so it's easier to swim in the latter.
But i may be wrong:D

interesting idea..salt water you can float easier so id say you swim faster in salt. but they dont use it in pools for competition so i think the difference is so small you wouldnt notice.
