I was wondering when you visit someone's kitchen should I say

1. That smells good.
2. It smells good.

If you are just being general (not just of a kitchen but an area) then use "it smells good" or "it smells good in here"

if there is something specific that smells good, like chicken or curry then use "that smells good"
