Which qualities should a person show if he wants to be "picked", or put himself up as, a moderator?
It would be good if a moderator were someone who does not look at all of the people of a certain nationality as being "all the same", and who has an ability to recognize and accept that people are individuals.

I suppose one very basic desirable quality might also be the ability to identify who had and who had not participated in a given thread.

And, Jamie, do you think I'd make a good forum moderator?

If the ten commandments were to be written again, I'd include this post as number 11 Exclamation

Really? What has the first part of your sentence got to do with moderating on a language forum?

And what use would that "skill" be?

What do you think Amy means by "participated" there?

Hi,

As a paid up member of the awkward squad I get the feeling that this 'moderator' discussion is reaching the realms of the fanciful.

Hi Alan

Really, shame on you for shaking your awkward stick at this intriguing debate.

Do you get a stick with membership to this squad?
Why a squad and not a club? Oh sorry it is to be awkward, got it. Very Happy

cheers stew.t.

Yes, yes, Stew, but what does identifying "who had and who had not participated in a given thread" do for the forum?

Hi Molly

Thanks for elaborating, and therefore clarifying your question.

Will leave that to fair Amy to answer.

Hi Molly

Since I feel sure that you understood my last post perfectly, I see no need for any "clarification". On the off chance that you actually didn't understand, I suspect that no amount of further "clarification" will do any good.

Well, I didn't understand it, but if when given the chance to clarify, you decline, what can I do?

Have you considered putting on your top hat, tying up your white tie, and brushing off your tails?

(It is often strangely consoling.)
