Hi Mr. Torsten,
Thank you very much for the website "english-test.net" you have showed me. I'm really attracted to them.
Today I want to share my pleasure to you. I'm amazed at the result I've just done. I've scored 10 marks for 10 correct answers in the test "Synonyms for see and watch" :D . This test is used for advanced level learners. At first, I want to try and I don't think I can do it well like that. I've really been unconcious for a moment :o .
What do you think about it?
I want to say to you one more thing. I usually do the exercises in this website, but they are in elementary or intermediate level, and the highest score is 9/10. Many exercises and questions, such as slang idiom, phrasal verbs make me confused. I'm sure that I don't understand them. So, how am I able to understand and use them, please?

Hi hothu,

I'd say you're doing pretty well. If you usually get 9/10 right and you only find slang/colloquial expressions hard to understand, you're definitely on the right track.

If you don't understand a particular exercise, you can always post a question on the ESL test forum or the general forum for questions concerning vocabulary, grammar and idioms.

Take care,

Ralf

We have read a lot of research about this. For example, when you see a new word or a new phrase, how many times do you need to hear it and understand it before you will remember it and can use it? How many times do you think, normally? Twenty maybe? Ten? well the answer is actually 30 or more. Thirty,at least 30 times. That's for American, me! If I'm reading a book and see a new word, a new English word, I actually need to see that word about 30 times and basically understand it, right, because I understand everything else. I can guess the meaning. Well, 30 times before I really know it deeply and can use it automatically. Lidiya
