Hi,

What does "toss up" in the sentence above mean? I looked up but it still didn't make any sense to me.

Many thanks,
Cantik

Thanks, Mohammad. But I don't think that is what it means.

According to my local sources it means the game was a good game, sort of. But I didn't find the meaning in English dictionaries.

if it was a toss up then it was a tight game.
Where either team could have won.

maybe it comes from the act of tossing a coin...where it could be heads or tails. it could go either way.

Thanks. I wonder why I can't find it in the dictionaries I looked up. Probably it is something local? rarely used? a slang maybe?

Confused
A definition for 'toss up' is actually quite easy to find online. A very good place to start is here:
http://www.onelook.com/?w=toss+up&ls=a

And here is one of the sources that onelook.com found for 'toss up':
http://dictionary.cambridge.org/define.asp?key=83932&dict=CALD

No trouble at all, Cantik.

I highly recommend bookmarking this site: http://www.onelook.com/ .
It comes in very handy -- handy for both native and non-native speakers of English alike.

Yes, Amy. "One look" and I know it's a great site and I have already bookmarked it before you advised me to do so. Very Happy
