Hi,

Could you tell me if the following sentense sounds OK, please?

Quote:
The document seems to lack the table of contents

Many thanks ! Smile

Sounds find to me. "seems to be missing" could be substituted for "seems to lack" with no change in meaning.

I think this is just a quirk of my own language usage, but to me using 'lack' conveys something of a sense of sarcasm, but that's because I tend to personally only use 'lack' when I'm being sarcastic, usually with 'severely' tagged on. I guess I just find the word amusing, or perhaps a bit old fashioned. Again, that's just my own idiosyncrasy, and I doubt you'd get much of a consensus on that.

For example, "I find your___ severely lacking", "Your lack of ___ is severely disturbing/upsetting/etc.", "Your ___ has been found lacking". All phrases I commonly use for disparaging comments
