I am looking forward to meeting you.
To is a preposition, not an infinitive particle, and meeting is a gerund. _________________ Native English teacher at Mister Micawber's |

Hi Torsten,
I have a question about the session of Simple Present. There is quiz in the test of the session:
Later tonight I ______ my uncle, who is ill in hospital. (a) visit (b) am visiting (c) are visiting
My answer is (a), but the correct answer is (b), am visiting. As I know, be+doing something is a present continuous. But the time of the sentence is later tonight, it may a past time or a future time. Why do you use present continuous?
I hope I make myself clear.
Thanks a lot ahead!
Gwen
Your answer was: incorrect your sentence: Later tonight I visit my uncle, who is ill in hospital. |

Present continuous is a common native choice for a planned activity in the near future:
I'm having dinner out later tonight. I'm going to a movie after that. etc.
Simple present is also used for future, but it is used primarily for established facts:
The train leaves at 6:05, so don't be late.
Simple present is possible in the quiz question, if the speaker visits his uncle every night as a rigid schedule, but it is an unlikely scenario. _________________ Native English teacher at Mister Micawber's |

Dear Torsten,
My score is 9/10. Here is my mistake:
Next time you come to my house, you must bring that book.
Correct answer: (a) come
Your answer was: incorrect your sentence: Next time you are coming to my house, you must bring that book.
I understood!!! It's the first conditional!! Isn't it?????????? |
Hi Kiprida,
In my opinion, In this sentence you should use " come" instead of using " are coming" because it is in the future tense. It's not in the continuous tense. Or even though, you can use " are going to come" for the future tense. |

Can you sir please tell me which one is the proper way to ask: "Do you have a car? Or Have you got a car?" & "Which company do you work for?, or What company do you work for?" Thanks |

In each case, the first question is the correct more formal answer, but the second question is also acceptable.
However, you would always use "Which company..." if you mean out of a specific choice of companies. _________________ Cheers m' dears! |

What a lovely tribute to Mr Torson!
"I asked God", would be correct though, as the rest of the sentence is past tense. _________________ Cheers m' dears! |
