Someting isn't quite right about the choice of "satisfying" here. Can you tell me what it is?

Dear Charlie,

I am really sorry for this loss. We will of course replace the damaged container. I have checked the current stock with Angela, our stock manager, and we will be able to send you a new container within the next two weeks. Would this be satisfying for you?

Should you require any additional information, please do not hesitate to contact me.

Kind regards

Alex

Hi Alex,

We received a container of your Bongo Bars
yesterday but the container must have leaked as the
bars are damp and will have to be destroyed. When
can we expect a new delivery? Please contact me
asap as our customers are waiting. If you can’t
deliver, we’ll have to go to one of your competitors.

Yours

Charlie (supermarket product manager,

Would this be satisfying for you? should be "Would this be satisfactory to you?", IMO.

Hi,

'Satisfying' has a sense to me of something personal, which doesn't really fit with the idea of a container being replaced. I agree 'satisfactory' is a better word or perhaps 'suitable'.

Alan's comment made me think of expressions such as: a satisfying meal, a satisfying result, etc, always connected with some personal feelings: comfortable.

It's so nice to see everything satisfactorily resolved. A quote from the inimitable MM now seems fitting:

Good-- there's nothing more satisfying than a dispelled doubt.

How about "would this be to your satisfaction"?

Does is sound very formal and does it "fit" with the register of the letter above?

Molly, in which context did Amy say what you have quoted here, and what is its relevance to this thread?

I suppose that's my fault, Ralf. I posted that and then immediately realized that I had posted in the wrong thread, so I deleted the post. (I'm actually kind of amazed, though, that Molly managed to highlight and copy it somehow before I deleted it.)
