Only general reading--reading things in which one has interest--can improve one's English and vocabulary.
One may try to recollect and write down all the words that are connected to a paticular aspect- say 'work'. This way one can improve and there are many word games which one may play to improve one's vocabulary.

The best way to learn new words is to write them on file cards. One the one side you write them in English and on the other side in your mother language. Try to revice them everyday. As cards are small and handy, you can even carry them in your pocket so that you can have a look at them when you are waiting for a bus for example.
Hope you can improve your vocabulary!

Use electronic flashcards Sat Nov 19, 2005 3:04 am  Use electronic flashcards

The answer is plain & simple - you need repetition.

If you review your words two days later, one week later, two weeks later, four weeks later, etc., you will never forget them.

As you can see, the intervals get larger and larger. In the end, you will need to study very little.

To do this, we suggest you to download VTrain (Vocabulary Trainer), a program used by 30 universities. This software will do all the scheduling for you!

Good luck!

I agree. Reviewing the words you have learned will help you remember them. You should also try using them in sentences. This will help you remember the meanings and the correct usage of the words.
