Had to quit the GRE® exam

I prepared for the GRE for about a month and was getting around 620V and 690Q on the paper practice tests. I began the exam today and only got through about 2/3 of the Qs before my time ran out. I was devastated and quit the exam and canceled my scores.

The only reason I can think that this happened was that I was doing well and the questions were getting harder, which meant they took longer for me to complete. I hadn't had any trouble with time at all on the paper practice tests so I was shocked and devastated when this occurred.

Besides taking the PP CAT exams, and practicing more math problems in hopes that I'll get faster, what should I do? I thought time was going to be the last of my issues and so I'm really stumped that this happened.

You should have used the session for practice rather than quitting...good luck..hope you do better next time and you may want to practice and get some time strategies down!

The problem was that you were taking paper tests to prepare for a CAT. Do CATs only. Take the Powerprep tests and the Princeton Review tests (they're in Cracking the GRE, which also has good tips).

Thanks for all the well wishes. I took the exam again about 2 weeks after my failed attempt. I got a 620V and 710Q. Definitely high enough for me (non-clinical psych programs) so I was happy. First time really was a case of nerves I believe.

look, i didn't try any pp nor cat before going to the exam but had to do with the time well (for the verbal part). when i didn't know the answer of the question, i just made educated guess (positive - negative) in order to save the time. one mistake i made is that i couldn't manage the time in the math but had to select randomly for the last 6 questions. in all, i had 1230 and that is fine for my school. that is to say, it only depends on how you use the time at the exam and not the samples you solved before.
