Misskhan, I'm sorry to tell you that all of these answers are incorrect. Please allow me to correct them.

correct sentence:

Sarah: 'I can't take any more.'
Paul: 'Oh, you can't, can't you?'

Correct answer: (c) Oh, you can't, can't you?

Your answer was: correct

Translate sentence or define "Oh, you can't, can you?" ( Cannot be defined.)

correct sentence:
Sarah: 'I won't listen to you any more.'
Paul: 'So you won't, won't you?'

Translate sentence or define "So you won't, will you?" ( cannot be defined.)

Hello Kitosdad,

It seems that Misskhan was confused about the answers that are given as being "correct" in this test (the test under discussion in this thread):
http://www.english-test.net/esl/learn/english/grammar/ei036/esl-test.php#one

Her "correct answers" were taken from the "correct answers" provided for questions #4 and #7.

I agree with your corrections, Kitosdad. For me, both question 4 and question 7 fall into the first category of tag questions that Alan described earlier in this thread. In that category, Alan mentioned this:
Quote:
"1 The sarcastic response or one showing surprise or disbelief where both are postive
In questions 4 and 7, the repetition of a negated verb would do the same thing.

In my opinion, questions 4 and 7 in the test need editing.

Hello,Alan.

I didn't know this kind of tag questions. It was difficult to me to answer that. I knew the tags where you use the sentence in negative or affirmative and the tag at the contrary. Why you use two kind of tag questions in negative and affirmative at the same time? I donīt understand.

Bye.

hello Mr. Alan...
your explanation is different with what I've studied before. as i know, if the statement is affirmative/positive, the question tag is negative. if the statement is negative, the question tag is positive. Would you explain more please! it's difficult but interesting...

1 The sarcastic response or one showing surprise or disbelief where both are postive as in:
A I've worked really hard today
B You have, have you?

- I like this one Alan, I always say this with an arching eyebrows. :)

As this is a question tag, the person repeating what the first speaker has said, uses the interrogative form of the same tense as in:

A I wanted to help
B Oh you did, did you?

A I have been there before
B Oh you have, have you?
