Would anyone comment on the use of disseminate in the following phrase; I believe this is a misuse of the word by its own definition but a co-worker of mine has his own ideas

Quote:
disseminate bank funds

Hello WMP,

If your co-worker meant simply "distribute bank funds", I would agree with you; but if the implication was "distribute bank funds with the intention of causing XYZ to develop", there might be a case for using the word.

Best wishes,

Thanks MrP for you input

My coworker's intent was to disseminate funds into an account or accounts. I told him (jokingly) I don't think banks disseminate funds if they do I'd like to know where to open my account.

I'd agree with you – it sounds like he meant "distribute".

All the best,
