You use an ellipsis to indicate that one or more words are missing, which must be supplied by the reader, or to indicate a longer pause in speech. It may also indicate an unstated alternative. An ellipsis is indicated by exactly 3 periods such as '...', unless it's at the end of a sentence, then there's 4 dots (3 dots plus a period).
So, in your sentence, it would be "I have this fantasy...where I drink Pepsi with you."
Other examples.
I was going to buy the coat, but....(I didn't because of something) I don't drink...wine. (Dracula says this, meaning he doesn't drink wine, but of course drinks blood instead.) _________________ Plan to be spontaneous tomorrow.

| Nevermind, I think you can't use an ellipsis if it would conflict with the grammar, and moreover in this case, it would be extremely difficult to realize that "one" is the word elided. |

Hi CM
Here is what I posted in answer to that same question (posted on a different site): http://www.englishforums.com/English/EllipsisPunctuationProblem/gjqkz/post.htm
Apparently, you weren't satisfied with my response either.
Perhaps someone else here will be able to come up with a different response -- one that meets with your approval. . _________________ "Nearly all men can stand adversity, but if you want to test a man's character, give him power." ~ Abraham Lincoln |
