What does it mean? I think that if you say I'm better off alone, you mean that it would be better if you were left alone (for example by your lover or friend, because they're bringing only trouble).

Additional context would be helpful.
If I said, for example, 'You are better off alone' I might be telling you 'You will be happier now that you are by yourself'.
