Hello Alan
Thank you very much for your newsletter. They are very interesting and is helping me to learn new vocabulary. I would be very happy if you could add a few exercises (in the conversation part) which will be of great help to speed up learning spoken English for non-native English speakers.

Dear Alan and Torsten

Thank you for such an interesting letter. I read it with pleasure, and learnt sth new for me. Following your link I looked it up in Google - why 'Time and tide wait for no man.' I wondered why 'time' comes along with 'tide'. And I found that "Tide didn't refer to the contemporary meaning of the word, i.e. the rising and falling of the sea, but to a period of time. When this phrase was coined tide meant a season, or a time, or a while." How interesting it is - the changes a word can undergo! You can find this explanation here. By the way, I failed to find a proper definition for 'tarrieth'.
As to the English tenses, I really like them all! I find all of them , as you says,"so versatile, all embracing and intelligent"'.Often you don'r need any other words in the sentence to make the situation clear. If I say "I've fed my cat" it means that she is not hungry now and you shouldn't give her more, otherwise she may vomit! As to me, I like cats! Very Happy
Tnanks a lot again.
Cheerio!

a bit enigmatic!

Not too enigmatic I hope! The idea is that an umbrella can encompass several 'times'.
