Mr. Torsten..
Please, why this phrase is wrong:
:: He's not understanding What I'm saying.
And, why this one is right:
:: He's looking a lot better than he did a few days ago.
thanks in advance. |
Hi Gerson,
The verb "understand" is considered to be 'stative'. This means, we usually don't use understand in the progressive forms.
Hope this helps. Regards, Torsten

Hi Torsten
Thanks a lot.
I did a researh about 'Stative Verbs', because I want understand better, and I found this:
:: State verbs describe states (things that can't change easily or quickly, example: what you believe, think or own) . Stative verbs are not normally used in the continuous form (-ING)
Stative verbs can be grouped into theses categories:
Emotions : care, like, need, feel, loathe, prefer, hate, love, want Ownership: own, have, possess mind: believe, forget, know, mean, realise, remember, suppose, understand, doubt senses: (often used with CAN ) hear, taste, see, touch, smell others: contain, depend, matter |
