Hi dear Torsten, now I feel confortable speaking english, like everybody else I used to be shy, unless you decided to start studying, speaking and never let anyone make you feel down, keep up your studies, look forward and right beyond you'll see your friends who used to critizise you they are back there starting learning english or stucked. that's what happened to me. I've been studying english for more than some couple 20 years and still studying, it is a helpful language. I work at the U.S. embassy in Brazil and have learned loads of expressions, new vocabulary, popular way of saying different things. One of the best way to lear is being humble and lear by your mistakes, so don't be very much mistaken of yorself, your are just good as everybody else. Like Obama says, Yes, we can, so Yes, you can. Learn English.

Study and keep a language is a all-life task, I have learnt English in my secondary school in Argentina, I forgot all grammar, so I started again to undertsand IT reference books, and I travelled to London, I was 8 months there, starting from 0 of course, phonetic (-5), I did not undertsand anything, a chef said backdoor, and my mind was 5 second to undertsand it, it was very funny to be there, I just took a 12 hours of English lessons in 8 months, I prefered to travel by the city than go to school, but I did not give up, back to my country I got 10 at the University course, then I studied for three years text translation Spanish-English, it was a distance career, I forgot the conditionals and some advanced verb tense after a couple of years, but I am continue with the case, I think I will continue all my life with this language, I started to do poetry, in Spanish there is metric, rhythm and all the stuff, in English, I just try rhyme by now, but I am getting better, I think it is a nice thing to do, write and research. I hope to be a FCE level all my life, that is enough in a non-spoken country, whenever we can not give it all the time. Bye Torsten. Thank you very much.

Dear Mr Torsten:
In my opinion, measures to determine advanced level is different from one to another.
If i were a techer, i would like my advanced students to use correct grammar and selective sentence and good expression and understanding. I think it's not difficult for experienced teacher to recognise who is good, who is intermediate and who needs to improve. But english is not just academic subject, it is a language. Therefore, speaking english well is also a evaluation. As for my english standard, i have many things to practise before moving to advanced level.

Dear Friends!
İ have read all your opinions about the question 'What is your level of English and how did you measure it? ' And İ see that most of you have an opportunity to talk with native speakers. Unfortunatlly in our country it is impossible. İ graduated the University of the world languages and did not use it for 5 years and i begin to forget. İ feel that my english becomes poor and poor day by day. But 1month ago i find this site and i am very happy to be member of it, but i am new here and for the first time it is diffucult for me to use such kind of site.
So in order to find out what is my level i begin with biginner's level and i will see in which level i will have difficulties i will know ''hhhh that is my level''
İ wish everybody Good Luck.

Hi Torsten

I have been so busy lately, and recently learned these lessons were to help me improve. Now that I have some spare time, I would like to put some effort into these lessons and start my journey from there. However, I went through my email inbox today and only found lesson 3 to 7. If possible, I would like to receive lesson 1 and 2, so I may start my lessons from the beginning?

Thanks in advance for your time, you are too kind.

Probably, I am not the best but I'll try to write down something, I agree completely with the idea of do more and more, even if someone feels that have a good English, in my opinion it is not way to say no more or enough is enough, in addition, in your own language you will see that you don't have the 90% of the vocabulary, the only way to improve a language is keep talking and reading every time but not cartoons or comics, it is better try with scripts such as science magazines, newspapers or books however should be useful try to read interesting topics that you really like,

I hope the information above help to improve your English guys and my writing as well.

Thanks

Sincerely

Op.

I don't think that my level of English is advanced. I have to learn a lot in order to say that it is at least intermediate. There are so many peculiarities in each language that in order to have an advanced level someone should live in an English-speaking country for some time. But it's my personal opinion. Thanks for your messages and advice.

Hi everybody,
I think that measuring your own level in English as a foreign language is not easy or simply expressed through three adjectives which are "beginner, intermediate or advanced". Besides, English level can be ameliorated in a continued way and in independence to a limited time.
It (English level ) can also be declined if you are not frequently using English through reading as well as writing..Watching English subjects is also very important because learning spoken English consists mainly in listening and saying it again. In this connection, I would like to ask our friend Adolfo888: "What's wrong with cartoons or comics :)?, it is anyway a nice media outlet expressed with English."
I want also to mention that this excellent website English-test.net is really incredible since it provides an important number of tests, given to different types of levels, that helps you discover your cognitive capacities in a certain topic and more importantly to learn new vocabulary items and grammatical tools as well.
I wish good luck to all friends!
Best regards
