"Also the Chinese State dealt with foreign direct investments (FDIs) to maximize the knowledge (to go?) and transfer of technology to its State Owned Enterprises (SOEs) for the betterment of its domestic labor. On the other hand China was a market that could not be ignored due to its opportunities and growth potential."

There seem to be an ellipsis after knowledge. Am I right?

I am asking and I am really perplexed with this because the two person who responded me on other sites told me it was incorrect, at least they said they thought it was incorrect.

Hi there,

I don't think the text was written by a native speaker. Word choice seems quite odd. I would have expected the author to write '...to maximize their knowledge and to transfer technology...', but even then it'd sound a bit squishy.

I feel the same as Ralf regarding the word choice. How does working with an investment increase knowledge? It's very difficult to do analysis on a text when when the text you're working from is so unusual.

Hmmm, is it because the ones who wrote this were Chinese? ...Well, it seemed odd to me at first, but I thought it was alright since it's from some kind of gov agency site.

I'd guess there aren't too many English speakers working for the Chinese government...
